Founder Biography
Demetrius Thornton is a writer, strategist, and leadership advisor whose work examines the gap between American ideals and lived reality. Through American Trickery, he explores how power operates in everyday environments, workplaces, institutions, and communities, and how individuals reclaim personal power within those systems.

His career spans senior leadership roles across global financial institutions, city government, and academia, where he has advised executives and public officials on organizational transformation, workforce strategy, and leadership effectiveness.
​
He previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff within New York City government, advising senior officials on strategic operations, resource allocation, and enterprise initiatives supporting one of the largest municipal systems in the United States.
​
Demetrius also served as Senior Vice President of Talent and Leadership at Madison Square Garden Entertainment and as a global diversity and talent executive at Credit Suisse, where he led enterprise talent initiatives and advised senior leadership on organizational strategy.
​
He currently teaches at New York University, preparing graduate students to navigate complex organizational environments and lead with clarity and authority.
​
He is the creator of the SCOPE™ Framework and founder of American Trickery™, a leadership and cultural platform focused on helping individuals and institutions understand power and build infrastructure for long term success.
